If you do your hair removal via shaving and waxing you know how it has so many downsides. The cuts, ingrown hair and irritation caused by shaving and the redness and soreness that comes with waxing. And don’t forget how time consuming it is considering it’s nowhere near a permanent solution. I had to bear with it since I couldn’t afford electrolysis or the expenses that come with visiting the laser treatment center. Then Tria came up with a hair remover laser for home use. I just had to get the Tria 4X laser. It was the first ever FDA approved laser for home use!
My experience buying my first Tria 4X laser
I had mixed emotions when I bought the tria hair remover 4X laser. I was excited but also terrified. I had heard of how laser burns can disfigure you. A monster-like look was not what I was going for considering all the hair on my legs and arms already made me feel gorilla-like.
I also didn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars for a gadget that doesn’t work.
Just after making my order but before delivery, I did some research on the Tria 4X laser. Turns out It works by targeting and permanently disabling the hair follicle leading to no more hair growth.
Consequently, existing hair falls out and new hair in your body grows at a slower pace than before. I liked the fact it made use of the same laser technology professional laser clinics use. In fact, this particular laser was a product from the same group of scientific geniuses who came up with the first laser to ever be used in professional laser salons.
When I finally got the 4X laser I was eager to start. Here is my honest opinion of my experience with this particular laser. I loved a couple of things about this particular laser:
Goodbye hairy me!
I half-expected the laser not to work but guess what, it did! It worked on my lip hair, underarms, arms, legs and bikini area! Now I can comfortably rock my short shorts and little black dress. The hair that grew back was a lighter shade which made it less noticeable. It took a month for my facial hair while for the rest of my body hair it took almost 6 weeks.

I couldn’t use it for my eyebrows because the laser is only to be used from the cheek bone downwards but I don’t mind that.
They say it works best on white people with dark hair but I am satisfied it worked on me, yet I am light brown with a few freckles here and there. But it still worked on me.
All this from the comfort of my home!
I am one of those few people who loves staying in more than going out. We also live on a ranch where previously I was forced to drive into town to get hair removal services. This laser for home use allowed me to get rid of undue discomfort and get my hair off at the comfort of my home. I think this is really great especially for those like me or shy girls who don’t like other people probing and touching them. I even did my last session while on a break from the chores while listening to some good music. I really do enjoy this.
Adjustable intensity levels

I loved that they made provisions for changing the intensity levels. I am very much pain intolerant but I was able to handle level two intensity. You must know that the lower the intensity the less effective the laser will be. On nights when I urgently needed my legs shaved I drank a glass of wine (or two) and I could handle level four intensity. Soon after I discovered numbing creams such as lidocaine Gel Green Caine Tropical Anesthetic and calming creams such as Tria Smooth Start calming Gel were available to help me out. Pre-laser treatment and post-laser treatment creams will soothe you adequately.
Pro tip: Ice can help you numb the skin too.
It's a One-time Investment
I loved that I did not have to replace batteries or have to replace cartridges. All I needed was to keep recharging. I do agree it’s a little on the high side when it comes to costs but since it’s a permanent solution, it’s a worthy investment.

I came to realize I spent less buying the laser than I spent compared on monthly waxing appointments and electric razors. The fact that you get the same benefits as visiting a laser clinic while spending thousands of dollars less makes all the difference. Consider this, a simple upper lip laser treatment is worth around the same price as the laser itself. Now imagine how much more getting rid of hair from the rest of the body costs.
Easiest to use gadget ever!
I must admit I am not the smartest tool in the shed when it comes to electronics and so I was a little scared I would spend hours learning how to operate it. I read the manual and it was so easy to follow I was almost shocked. The instructions are clear enough. The large LED screenallows you to easily navigate around. The features it has are just off the hook- comfort settings, energy levels, pulse counter, battery low warning and even a lock feature when the laser is not in use.
Safety first!
I did count on the fact that it was FDA approved as a guarantee for safety and it did not disappoint.
Guess what? There were no burns even when the laser was at its highest intensity. They did warn not to try high intensity levels for sensitive areas so I didn’t dare risk that. Following instructions is a good thing, remember all ye rebels.

The automatic skin sensor also ensures the laser 4X won’t work on a skin tone too dark or hair types too light. Tria recommends the laser 4X doesn’t work on white, grey, blonde or red hair types. Using laser treatment on such hair types or skin too dark can cause burns and injury. This proves they really did carry out clinical trials.
I can carry it on trips!
I carried it when I visited my sister in Miami last summer and it was so easy to carry on my vacation. No power cords or bulkiness to deal with makes it very portable.
Any cons you need to know about?
Recharging
You have to keep recharging the laser after almost every use. The power charge can last up to 40 minutes when working on small surface areas such as the underarms, this is not a problem. However, the power charge will run out if you are using it for arms and legs. From my experience, you have to recharge it once when doing your legs. This is however not a deal breaker and so I have learnt to live with it and even enjoy the mid-session breaks.
Portability
It might not be as portable for short trips because it is almost the size of a blow dryer. I am forced to shave before going on short trips where am carrying only an overnight bag or a handbag.
My Experience with The New Tria Laser Precision - Was it Any Different?
Just the other day Tria decided to release a new laser into the market - The new tria precision laser. I just had to try it. For one, they promised it was a new and improved version of the laser 4X; they had produced a more easily portable, lightweight and ergonomic laser that works on facial hair.
Since they delivered on their laser 4X, I was pretty sure they wouldn’t disappoint. I discovered the 4X and precision lasers aren’t that different. They both make use of advanced diode technology and so work pretty much the same way.
Let me share about my experience with the Tria Laser Precision. Apart from the fact I could use it at home, it did have a few more perks.
It didn't disappoint.
Tria definitely got us another quality product. The Tria precision laser works to ensure permanent hair removal. Since it is specially designed for facial hair and sensitive areas, I tried it on that first. The growth of my upper lip hair had reduced drastically and hair fallen out after only two sessions. I did love that I got the tiny hairs on my underarms that the laser 4X usually missed. In one sitting you can get your upper lip (4 minute treatment) and bikini (12 minute treatment) done or you can do your upper lip and underarms (4 minute treatment for one underarm).
I did try it on my arms. That took forever because of the small head on this gadget. I had to recharge it to finish up on both arms.
A one-time investment
Tria seems to very much understand we have a million other things calling for our money other than their products and so they decided to produce an even more affordable laser for us. There are still no ongoing costs for cartridge or battery replacement.

Buy the Tria Beauty Hair Removal Laser Precision
Guess what? The price you pay for this amazing and efficient gadget is almost 6 times what you would pay to get your underarm hair removed at your average laser clinic.
If I add up how much I used to spend on monthly waxing appointments the costs would be way higher than what I paid for the laser.
Much easier to carry around.
I thought the tria laser 4X was easy to carry around until I got my Tria laser precision. It even fits in my overnight bag. It is cordless, very compact and even more light weight. Really handy when I am going on short trips.
Ergonomic design
The Tria Precision laser is now easier to hold so that you don’t get tired and are able to hit your target area with more precision. Must be one of the reasons why they named it the laser precision. You can reach every nook and cranny of your body with this new design.
Safety first.
This laser is still FDA approved. There is no risk of burns with this laser. The skin tone sensor keeps it from being activated when skin type or hair color is not in the range the laser can work on. A risk only exists where you fail to follow the instructions given. For instance, you can’t use high intensity levels on very sensitive areas of your body. Know your body well before embarking on laser self-treatments. You can even test it on a small patch first. Unlike the laser 4X the levels are three instead of five. This might be because they anticipated the laser will be used for sensitive areas that don’t need varying intensity levels.
Did anything put me off about it?
Yes. Its durability level is lower than the laser 4X model. I don’t know if it has anything to do with being cheaper but this model doesn’t last as long. Tria needs to up its game here.
Secondly, it takes little time to charge the laser but the battery life is only 15 minutes. Gosh! This just put me off completely. I couldn’t do my underarms and upper lip in one sitting. Doing my legs only took four recharges! Who has time for that? The fact that it is a small laser with smaller charging system might be a contributing factor.
Its minute size also contributes toits small head. A small head is great when trying to work on parts of the body that are not easy to get to. However, it works too slowly when trying to get a large surface area done.

Need Some Help Deciding Which To Choose?
I do enjoy using both the laser 4X and the laser precision. The laser 4X was great with large surface areas such as the legs and I was able to carry it on trips. The laser precision was relatively easier to carry around and it helped with small areas that the 4X couldn’t get to quick enough.
However, if you really have to choose, I would recommended the laser 4X. You should know it has even won awards including Fitness Magazine’s 2013 Fitness Beauty Award when compared in terms of durability, the laser 4X lasts longer. It also works on every part of the body with a longer charge life. The Tria precision laser was only created for small areas such as underarms and bikini line. If you go with the precision laser you might need to use other hair removal methods to compensate for its inadequacies. The head of the laser 4X is larger meaning it woks faster.
The laser 4X might cost more but it provides more benefits to you than the alternative, in my opinion that is.
